Step 4: Payment
Payment is the final step of the booking flow. Depending on the location's setup and the amount currently due, the guest either enters card details to pay now, or simply confirms the booking with nothing to pay upfront.
Quick start
- Review the Total Bill and Amount Due Now one last time in the Order Summary
- If payment is required, enter card details in the secure payment field
- Click Pay & Book (or Confirm Booking if nothing is due)
- Wait for confirmation — the guest is redirected to the Receipt page on success
What you can do
- Review the full total — including add-ons, tax, gratuity, and any promo code discount, before paying
- Pay securely — card details are entered directly into the location's connected payment provider's field
- Confirm without paying, when nothing is due right now
- Retry safely — a failed attempt never results in being charged twice
How it works
Payment requirement display
What this step shows depends entirely on whether a payment is actually due:
- When the location has no live payment gateway connected, or the amount due right now is exactly zero, the step shows: "No payment is required for this booking." — with no card field at all
- When the location has a live gateway and an amount is due now, a card entry field renders, above which reads: "Securely pay the amount due to confirm your booking."
Only one payment provider's card field ever renders — whichever gateway (Stripe, Square, or Clover) is the location's currently active, connected one. The three are mutually exclusive; a guest never sees more than one card form.
Reviewing before paying
The Order Summary panel continues to show Total Bill and Amount Due Now, reflecting every choice made across all previous steps — booking type, date, time slot, guests, add-ons, and gratuity. This is the last chance to confirm everything looks right before submitting.
Submitting — no payment required
The button reads "Confirm Booking." Clicking it doesn't require or wait on any card details — the booking is created immediately.
Submitting — card payment due
The button reads "Pay & Book." If card details are missing or invalid, an error appears — "Please enter valid card details to continue." — and the booking is not submitted. Some cards may require an extra verification step (such as a bank confirmation prompt) before the charge completes; the guest is guided through this automatically if it's needed.
While a submission is in progress, the button shows a "Booking…" state, and both Back and the pay button are disabled to prevent submitting more than once.
What happens after payment
Success
On success, the guest is redirected straight to the booking receipt page. Rapidly clicking the pay button multiple times never creates multiple bookings — only the first click is submitted.
Failure
If the booking is rejected by the server — for example, the time slot was taken by someone else since it was first checked, a validation issue, or the card payment itself was declined — an error notice explains why, and the guest stays on this step with everything already entered still intact.
A failure with no specific reason falls back to: "We couldn't complete your booking. Please try again."
Retrying Pay & Book after a failure is always safe — a card is never charged twice for a single booking attempt, even across retries. Nothing entered on any previous step is lost when a payment fails, so the guest can simply correct the issue and try again.
Step navigation
Clicking Back returns to Your Info with everything entered intact. Back is disabled while a submission is actively in progress.
Common scenarios
Nothing to pay right now
If the location doesn't take card payments online, or the deposit due today comes out to zero, this step simply asks for a final confirmation — no card details are needed at all.
A card is declined
An error explains the payment couldn't go through, and the guest stays on this step with all their information intact. They can correct or replace the card details and try again without losing anything.
The time slot fills up right before paying
Since availability can change between steps, the final submission is checked again. If the slot is gone, an error explains this and the guest can go back to Booking Details to pick a different time.
Troubleshooting
Issue: "Please enter valid card details to continue" keeps appearing
Why this happens: The card number, expiry, or security code is missing, incomplete, or fails a basic format check.
How to fix it: Double-check every card field is filled in correctly, including expiry date and security code, then try again.
Issue: The booking failed after entering payment
Why this happens: The card may have been declined, or the slot may no longer be available.
How to fix it: Read the specific error message shown. If it's a card issue, try a different card. If it's an availability issue, go back to Booking Details and pick a different time.
Issue: I was double-charged (or worried I might be)
Why this happens: This shouldn't happen — clicking Pay & Book repeatedly, or retrying after a failure, is designed to only ever result in one successful charge.
How to fix it: Check the receipt page or confirmation email for a single booking reference. If a genuine duplicate charge appears on a card statement, contact the business directly.
Frequently asked questions
What payment methods are accepted?
This depends on which payment provider the location has connected — Stripe, Square, or Clover. Only one is active per location, and its card field is shown automatically.
Is my card information secure?
Yes. Card details are entered directly into the connected payment provider's secure field and are never handled directly by the booking page itself.
What if I need to pay the rest of the balance later?
Any amount not collected now (shown as the difference between Total Bill and Amount Due Now) is handled separately by the business, typically on the day of the activity. See Booking Summary & Pricing for how the amount due now is calculated.
Can I go back and change my details after reaching Payment?
Yes, as long as the booking hasn't been submitted yet. Click Back to return to Your Info; everything you entered is preserved.
